Description

SUMMARY: Career-Technical Instructors prepare students to meet entry-level knowledge and skill requirements in their specialty areas. They report to the Dean of Career, Technical, and Workforce Education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students occupational competencies necessary for employment.
  • Prepare course competency-based outlines for each instructional course or program.
  • Prepare detailed lesson plans, job sheets, and laboratory experiments for all units of instruction.
  • Recommend changes in the total curriculum to maintain an up-to-date program.
  • Develop and maintain progress of each student in the program.
  • Teach related subject matter.
  • Supervise laboratory experience.
  • Develop a schedule of courses for each semester.
  • Review and select instructional materials such as textbooks and audio‑visual materials.
  • Complete requests for supplies and other instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Complete enrollment and follow‑up reports.
  • Assist in the development of an annual budget for the instructional program.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Recommend new and/or replacement equipment to be purchased for the program.
  • Maintain proper inventory of all equipment and tools assigned to the program.
  • Keep equipment functioning and in good working order by establishing a preventive maintenance system.
  • Maintain an active craft committee that meets twice a year.
  • Visit industry to develop good rapport with potential employees.
  • Takes an active role in the advisement and counseling of students.
  • Help students find employment in occupations related to training.
  • Fulfill the requirements of career license certification by attending specified classes and workshops.
  • Serve on various faculty committees.
  • Attend faculty meetings and workshops.
  • Perform assigned duties on orientation days scheduled during summer months.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Associate’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Networking, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in the IT field.
  • Current CompTIA A+ and Security+ certifications or ability to earn the certifications within 12 months of employment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows client and server operating systems, Linux, Cisco routers and switches, virtualization technologies, programming/database/SQL, wireless implementation, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred Job Requirements:
  • BS Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Networking, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in the IT field.
  • Current CompTIA A+ and Security+ certifications.
  • Previous teaching experience.
