Lead Nutrition Services Worker – Kern High School District

Knowledge of basic methods for computing food quantities required by weekly or monthly menus;
Proper and safe use, operation, and care of a variety of nutrition services equipment and appliances;
Basic procedures, methods, and equipment used in cooking, baking, preparation, serving, and storage of large quantities of food;
Proper nutrition services sanitation and safety requirements;
Basic mathematics;
Ability to understand and follow directions independently, read and write at a sufficient level to perform duties, coordinate day‑to‑day operations, maintain simple records, prepare routine reports, compute and estimate food quantities accurately, operate and maintain assigned equipment safely and sanitarily, establish effective work relationships, direct and coordinate work of others;
Must meet the physical requirements needed for the duties;
Two years experience as a Nutrition Services Worker (required);
Criminal history check and pre‑placement medical assessment required;
Test on general knowledge of meal pattern requirements for the National School Lunch Program and a basic math test will be given before the interview.

Assist the Nutrition Services Supervisor in daily operations of a school site cafeteria;
Perform responsible cooking and baking duties in the central kitchen or at a school cafeteria site;
Coordinate day‑to‑day operations of a major food preparation department within the central kitchen or school kitchen facility;
Oversee, direct, and coordinate work of others in a lead supervisory capacity;
Prepare major portions of meals (e.g., salad, pastry, entrees) using a prescribed menu.
