Director, Recruiting & Retention
We have the opportunity for an experienced Director of Recruiting & Retention to join the Firm's Talent department. The Director, Recruiting and Retention will lead a team focused on recruiting for all attorney and business professional roles firm-wide. Balancing day-to-day tactical management with growth strategy, this role will collaborate regularly with shareholder and administrative leadership to ensure that recruiting is aligned with the firm’s overall growth strategy. The director will frequently collaborate with DEI, Human Resources, Attorney and Career Development, and other firm departments. Occasional travel will be required to firm locations.
Essential Functions
- Develop and execute comprehensive recruiting strategies to attract, recruit, onboard, and retain top talent, using both traditional and innovative sources to create a pipeline of qualified candidates with a focus on diverse talent.
- Oversee and direct all lateral attorney and business professional recruitment.
- Oversee and direct all aspects of on-campus recruiting and the summer associate recruitment process.
- Serve as a thought partner and resource for local office leadership and functional administrative teams with regard to staffing needs and recruiting.
- Oversee development of communication and marketing materials, including the OD Careers website, social media, and electronic communications.
- Assess and report on market intelligence, staying abreast of developments in recruiting to ensure that the firm’s strategy and processes are innovative, effective, and legally compliant.
- Own the recruiting budget to ensure the best, most effective use of firm resources.
- Lead and develop a strong, professional, and responsive team of subject‑matter experts.
- Serve as the subject matter expert with regard to recruiting platforms and technology; streamline and improve existing recruiting processes and tools with a constant focus on continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Collaborate with and support the broader Talent team on various tasks/projects, as needed.
- Partner with and support the DEI team to achieve the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives.
- Any additional responsibilities as required by firm leadership.
Requirements
- 7+ years work experience in a large law firm, professional services or corporate environment and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within a law firm, professional services or corporate environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred.
- Professional presence and excellent presentation skills.
- Resilience.
- Strong interpersonal, management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Solid judgment and a track‑record of handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to be a change agent and drive new firm initiatives.
