We are pleased to offer the current job opportunity for a Building and Zoning Permit Technician position within the County’s Building and Zoning Department. This position will be assisting the public in applying for permits of all types; issuance of permits of all types; assistance with the County Building Code processes; assistance with the County Zoning Ordinance processes; assistance with other general County Building Department processes. This position willperform research, data collection, and perform reviews of certain types of building permit applications, construction plans, and site plans to ensure compliance with the County Ordinances.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the public applying for permits and accurately completing any other necessary documentation related to permits.
Responds to building permit and zoning related questions and explains permitting procedure to the public.
Acts as the contact person and handles correspondence between the customers, building permit staff, zoning coordinators, highway department, and plan reviewers.
Examines construction plans, blue prints, surveys, and specifications on residential / commercial developments in unincorporated DuPage County to ensure compliance with building, drainage, and zoning ordinances.
Provides information and assists the public with questions specifically concerning Building & Zoning requirements.
Performs basic zoning reviews with limited knowledge of the Zoning Ordinance in conjunction with the permitting process.
Monitors the status of all assigned permit reviews and fees.
Assists customers on the phone and in person with regard to problems and questions associated with permitting.
Checks legal descriptions from surveys, topographical layouts with United States Geological Survey (USGS) grades, researches wetland / floodplain maps.
Reviews issues with septic and well layouts.
Processes plan revisions after permits have been issued.
Routes commercial construction plans to appropriate fire protection districts, contracted plan review consultants, townships, and locates parcel numbers.
Processes contractor certificates of insurance and contacts agents as needed.
Maintains permit records such as copies of documents, correspondence, insurance certificates, and building department waivers.
Compiles code and record data to assist inspection staff.
Provides assistance to the Administrative Adjudication Hearing Officers clerk as necessary.
Inputs permitting data into the department’s electronic permitting software
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent; four years of experience in customer service work including experience with zoning, building, construction, permitting, plan review; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
