The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of
Chief Deputy County Counsel
in the office of County Counsel. Under general direction, the incumbent will assist in planning, organization and oversight of department-wide services; assign and direct the work of subordinate personnel; may act for the County Counsel during periods of absence; may carry a workload that involves complex and sensitive transactions, legal cases or issues; and perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
Demonstrate extensive legal experience and the ability to oversee complex and sensitive legal matters, including high-risk transactions and cases.
Assist in the planning, organization, and oversight of department-wide legal services to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Assign, direct, and review the work of subordinate attorneys and professional staff, fostering accountability and high performance.
Serve as a trusted advisor and act on behalf of the County Counsel during periods of absence with sound judgment and discretion.
Exercise exceptional legal judgment, integrity, and professionalism in confidential and high-stakes situations.
Collaborate effectively with County leadership, departments, and external stakeholders to provide clear, practical legal guidance.
Manage competing priorities and complex legal challenges calmly in a dynamic public-sector environment.
Demonstrate flexibility and a strong commitment to public service by performing related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Minimum: Possession of a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited school of law and five (5) years of professional experience in the practice of civil law in the State of California, including a minimum of three (3) years in the practice of public law.
Preferred: Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and two (2) years of the required experience must be equivalent to the County’s class of Deputy County Counsel III and additional years of experience in a lead, supervisory or management capacity within a law office in a public agency; public agency experience in land use, planning, probate, child welfare, law enforcement, labor and employment law and/or contracts is desirable.
Salary/Compensation: $14,765 - $16,242 per month
