Job Description:
Seeking an experienced senior network engineer for the Western/Central MA Area to join the IT Networking team. This position will primarily support and implement networking equipment and software, including firewalls, switches, routers, and load balancers. Responsibilities include monitoring, patching, compliance activities, and backups for all network equipment. The role involves collaboration with other IT units, providing technical advice and mentoring, and acting as project manager for small to mid-size projects.
Responsibilities
Create and update documentation for current network architecture and new installations.
Plan, design, and implement future network installations and capacity planning.
Perform high-level analysis and troubleshooting of network infrastructure.
Work independently with vendors and agencies to resolve network issues.
Conduct capacity planning analysis to ensure sufficient network throughput.
Provide technical expertise and leadership to team members.
Research and analyze requests for problem resolution.
Ensure compliance with security standards and directives.
Participate in audit compliance efforts (e.g., PCI) and complete remediation timely.
Travel between facilities to maintain and deploy networking equipment.
Perform other related duties as requested.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
8 years of network engineering experience in large enterprise environments.
5 years in a senior capacity leading complex networking projects.
Strong understanding of routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP).
Hands‑on experience with network infrastructure components, load balancing (Citrix NetScaler), and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Splunk, Cisco Catalyst Center).
Expertise in ACLs, Firewalls, VPN, Wi‑Fi, and security technologies.
Proficiency in TCP/IP, VLANs, WANs, routing and switching (Cisco).
Experience with firewalls (Checkpoint, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto).
Knowledge of AWS network architecture, VLAN, VTP, STP protocols.
Familiarity with PCI/PII requirements and cable standards.
Experience with Metro‑Ethernet, VOIP, QoS, and network monitoring tools.
Ability to communicate technical information to varied audiences.
Skilled in creating/updating Network Visio diagrams.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities under pressure.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience required.
Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE) preferred but not required.
