What the Role Is
This position reports to the Director, Renewable Control Center and will be located in our Scottsdale, AZ office. The Manager, Real-Time Operations oversees the remote control and monitoring of power generation assets across the operating fleet. This position has a primary responsibility to provide direct oversight to the Operations Specialists and ensure that established processes and procedures are consistently implemented and followed. Operating out of the Clearway Energy Group Remote Operations Center, the Remote Operations team monitors and controls approximately 10 GW of utility‑scale renewable energy plants, including wind, solar, and energy storage.
What You'll Be Doing
Provide direction and supervision to the on‐shift Operations team in day‑to‑day job activities and responsibilities
Oversee and drive continuous improvement in an effort and desire to reduce and eliminate operational issues
Assist in proactively monitoring real‑time activity, performance, and operational status of all wind and solar assets to include dispatching of generation, complying with transmission directives and outage coordination/management
Assist the operators in understanding and identifying abnormal operations or alarm conditions that arise during shift and appropriately troubleshoot in a timely fashion
Perform periodic operator log reviews for accuracy and compliance
Perform acceptance testing on RPMC tools and applications used by the on‑shift Operations team
Support commissioning activities of new projects
Assist in developing, guiding, and supporting the onboarding process and training requirements of operations personnel, to include professional development and regulatory obligations
Implementation of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and offtaker agreements
Report to senior management on operational incidents
Work in close coordination with Energy Management to execute internal processes and programs
Develop processes and procedures to comply with various ISO, TSO and other grid regulatory entities
Assist and facilitate fleet performance reporting
Work in close coordination with teams outside of the RPMC, such as Site Operations, Operations Performance Analytics, Engineering, IT support teams, and Regulatory
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Relevant experience in electrical & power generation would be considered in lieu of education.
Minimum of 2 years experience in Renewable Control Center Operations
Previous Control Center/Dispatch experience preferred
PJM GO Certification required within 6 months of employment
NERC Certification required within 12 months of employment
Able to demonstrate technical knowledge of plant and system processes and experience in operating electrical or SCADA systems
Able to interpret NERC, ERCOT, WECC, CAISO, PJM, and SPP regulations and requirements
Available for 24‑hour on‑call duty to meet obligations to the Operations Team as issues arise
Knowledge of functional system interactions and must be able to pay attention to critical elements in a complex and regulated environment
Ability to make financial judgments based on real‑time power plant equipment analysis and contract related cost weighting risk versus reward
Ability to coordinate multiple activities and ensure safety, quality and schedule adherence
Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis unsupervised and in collaboration with others
Ability to work in difficult customer situations
Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented, collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines and working together to achieve company‑wide goals
Demonstrated self‑starter with a positive “can do” attitude and a passion for excellence in embracing company goals and initiatives
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Clearway will not sponsor non‑immigrant visas for this position (H‑1B, TN, E‑3, etc.). Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations $135,000 – $160,000 USD
This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.
