Senior Marketing Automation Engineer - Salesforce Marketing Cloud Join athenahealth as a Senior Marketing Automation Engineer on the athenaIT team. You will design and implement advanced customer engagement journeys using Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement (SFMCE) and Salesforce Data Cloud.

Position Overview As a Senior Marketing Automation Engineer, you will bridge marketing strategy and technology capabilities, build scalable data‑driven marketing solutions, mentor team members, and ensure alignment with enterprise technology standards.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a trusted advisor to marketing stakeholders, aligning campaign strategies with platform capabilities and data architecture.

Provide thought leadership on leveraging SFMCE, Data Cloud, and AI‑driven personalization to optimize engagement.

Design and implement advanced customer engagement journeys, segmentation strategies, and personalization using SFMCE and Data Cloud in collaboration with marketing strategy stakeholders.

Configure and maintain data models, identity resolution, and audience segmentation within Salesforce Data Cloud.

Integrate multiple data sources and destinations to enable unified customer profiles and real‑time personalization.

Implement AI‑driven recommendations (e.g., Einstein, Agentforce), predictive scoring, and generative content capabilities within Marketing Cloud.

Explore and deploy Agentforce solutions for marketing automation and conversational engagement.

Develop and maintain automations, data extensions, and API integrations (REST/SOAP) for seamless data flow.

Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and maintain high standards for deliverability and reputation.

Conduct peer reviews, troubleshoot technical issues, and collaborate with QA resources to ensure quality deliverable hand‑offs.

Document technical solutions and maintain version control for transparency and training.

Mentor team members on advanced SFMC, Data Cloud, and AI capabilities.

Stay current with Salesforce releases, AI advancements, and marketing technology trends to drive innovation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.

5+ years of hands‑on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement.

Proven experience with Salesforce Data Cloud (formerly Data 360) for identity resolution, segmentation, and data activation.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer and Administrator certifications required.

Salesforce Administrator, Data Cloud Consultant, and AI/Agentforce certifications highly preferred.

Advanced proficiency in AMPscript, SSJS, SQL, HTML/CSS for dynamic content and data manipulation.

Strong understanding of REST/SOAP APIs for integrations.

Experience with CDP functionality, data modeling, and identity resolution.

Familiarity with AI‑driven personalization, predictive analytics, and generative content tools.

Ability to understand performance metrics related to engagement, deliverability, and reputation.

Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality technical solutions.

Expected Compensation $119,000 - $203,000 per year. Base salary depends on experience and location; additional incentives may be offered.
