Security Alarm Monitoring Specialist
Location: Norfolk Naval Shipyard, VA
Chenega Military, Intelligence & Operations Support (MIOS) is seeking a skilled Security Alarm Monitoring Specialist to support the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Naval Sea Systems Alarm Monitoring Point (AMP) security mission. The role involves 24/7 active surveillance, access control monitoring, and communication management in a high‑security environment.
Astraeus Operations (AO), a certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SBD) subsidiary of the Chenega Corporation, is responsible for delivering comprehensive contract services that support federal government missions. The Security Alarm Monitoring Specialists play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the naval facility.
Responsibilities
Operate and monitor computerized Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Closed‑Circuit Television (CCTV), and Automated Access Control Systems (AACS).
Assess and interpret alarms; coordinate appropriate emergency or security response via Radio Dispatch Center (RDC).
Utilize access lists to verify clearance status and authorize entry into restricted areas.
Maintain and document logs of all alarm activities, hourly surveillance checks, and communications.
Respond professionally to non‑emergency and emergency calls and direct them to the RDC as required.
Operate communications equipment including radio consoles, portable radios, and secure telephones.
Use office equipment such as desktop/laptop computers, printers, fax machines, and scanners.
Create, maintain, and organize files and documentation according to SOPs.
Prepare supply requisitions for inventory maintenance of consumables and non‑consumables.
Provide professional and tactful guidance to individuals denied access.
Refer complex or unresolved issues to the AMP Site Supervisor or designated authority.
Support emergent security incidents and events, including managing area load lists.
Maintain consistent work attendance, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2+ years’ experience in alarm monitoring, physical security, military operations center, emergency communications, or a similar environment is preferred.
Interim Secret clearance required.Must be a U.S. citizen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Availability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer systems, including the ability to quickly learn and operate multiple software systems, databases, and electronic monitoring tools.
Ability to assess active situations and make sound, timely decisions under pressure.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly convey information to team members, security personnel, and emergency responders.
Skilled in operating alarm monitoring systems, radio equipment, and office technology.
High level of attentiveness to environmental and operational changes.
Adequate problem identification and resolution skills.
Ability to accept feedback and adjust performance accordingly.
Capable of maintaining accurate logs, organizing records, and managing inventory.
Ability to manage emotional responses in high‑stress or emergency scenarios.
Maintains punctuality, follows schedules, and demonstrates reliability in all duties.
Tactful interaction with personnel and adherence to SOPs and security protocols.
