The Opportunity As Founding CTO, you’ll lead the technical vision and execution for our flagship product, a scalable, secure, and adaptive platform that transforms how K–12 institutions use their data. You will be responsible for early technical strategy, product development, team hiring, and hands‑on engineering leadership.
This is a founding‑level role, ideal for a builder who thrives at the intersection of software engineering, data infrastructure, and education, and someone ready to shape not just the product, but the company itself.
Key Responsibilities Technical Vision & Strategy
Define the technical roadmap for our education data platform.
Evaluate and integrate edtech and data infrastructure technologies.
Ensure data security, compliance (FERPA, COPPA), and scalability from day one.
Product Development
Build the MVP in partnership with the CEO and early design/product team.
Lead the development of the data infrastructure and AI assistant that interfaces with LMSs, SISs, and district data.
Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate features based on educator feedback.
Hire and mentor a small, high‑performing engineering team.
Foster a culture of technical excellence, ethical data and AI use, and mission‑driven innovation.
Establish coding standards, infrastructure practices, and delivery cadence.
Design a robust architecture for ingesting and unifying school data.
Develop intelligent copilots or chat‑based workflows for educators and administrators.
Optimise for privacy, performance, and personalization in large‑scale deployments.
Ideal Candidate Profile Experience
7+ years in engineering leadership, ideally as a founding or early‑stage CTO.
Experience and excitement for leading and scaling a team as a founding CTO, but also an individual contributor.
Proven ability to build, launch, and scale SaaS or AI‑driven products.
Proven experience with data model design and data infrastructure architecture.
Experience with edtech data systems (e.g., SIS, LMS, rostering APIs) is a major plus.
Strong understanding of AI/ML pipelines (OpenAI, Anthropic, vector databases, etc.).
Familiarity with data privacy and compliance in education.
Experience working with and managing partners, contractors, and other third‑parties.
Technical Stack (ideal but flexible)
Frontend: React / Next.js
Infrastructure: AWS / GCP
AI/ML: OpenAI API, LangChain, Pinecone, or equivalent frameworks
