Academic Mentor The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and volunteer their personal time to be a caring friend to a youth. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.

As an Academic Mentor, you will spend at least one hour per week with your mentee using Be A Mentor’s Virtual Mentoring Platform. Mentors focus on goal setting, homework help, and career exploration. While there may be a focus on homework help in the meetings, these sessions are more than just tutoring. Mentees form a personal relationship with their mentor to build resilience, social engagement, and a support network.
