Job Title Deputy Constable – CPay Rate United States of America (Hourly) Time Type Full time

Summary Under direct supervision of the Constable or designee of the Constable, the sworn officer upholds the standards set forth in the Texas Local Government Code and other assorted laws, rules and regulations including general duties by the Constable or designee. The position of Deputy Constable is a peace officer by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and meets qualifications equivalent to those of all other peace officers in the State of Texas, licensed with proficiency and certified by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers (TCOLE) Standards and Education as a Basic Peace Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

Preserves the peace within the officer’s jurisdiction by all lawful means performed as patrol, enforce traffic regulations, undertake investigations, arrest law breakers, carry out executions of judgement, summons persons to aid in duties when necessary and to complete juries.

Prevent and suppress crime where authorized by the Code of Criminal Procedures which may include the seizure, impound and sell real and personal property as directed by the law.

Execute all lawful criminal process issued to the officer by any magistrate or court including giving notice to magistrate of all offenses committed within the officer’s jurisdiction, where the officer has good reason to believe there has been a violation of the penal law. The delivery of court actions may include citations, writs or subpoenas. The County or State charges various fees for such documents and for legal service thereof to a defendant or witness in civil suit.

Arrest offenders without warrant in every case where the officer is authorized by law, in order that they may be taken before the proper magistrate or court to be tried.

Prepares incident reports, completes administrative forms and maintains activity logs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate

Basic knowledge of law enforcement and security operations and the responsibilities of a peace officer

Hold a valid Basic Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE)

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and an insurable driving record

Must secure and maintain a favorable Constable background and security clearance

Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test

May be required to work evening and weekend shifts

May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Frequently working in county facilities

Frequently operates or rides in police type vehicles

Frequently works outside vehicle when serving legal papers at residences or places of employment

Occasional exposure to outdoor weather environment

Must have physical stamina to control persons who may be agitated or resistant

Occasional exposure to hostile or violent individuals with occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and/or other potentially infectious material

Occasionally moves items weighing up to 25 pounds

Occasionally moves about the office

Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information

Constantly operates a two-way radio, cellular phone, handgun, and handcuffs

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery

Positions self to perform essential functions

Must be able to remain in a stationary position
