Start Date: December 2025. Locations: CICS Longwood Elementary, CICS Longwood High School, CICS Loomis Primary, CICS Prairie, CICS Lloyd Bond
Reports To: Principal
Salary: Starting at $18.75/hr. Employee Type: Part‑Time
Position Overview Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering specified course content in the absence of the classroom teacher. Key duties include maintaining a safe educational atmosphere where students can fulfill intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. The substitute’s workday aligns with the teacher’s workday.
Job Responsibilities
Teach scheduled classes
Implement lesson plans, routines, and expectations set forth by the classroom teacher
Develop and maintain a positive learning environment
Implement effective management procedures and routines
Maintain confidentiality of student information, grades, and school personnel
Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety; never leave students unsupervised
Consult with the grade level/content team to resolve questions and/or concerns
Follow all campus procedures and schedules
Promote proper use and care of materials, tools, and school property
Supervise non‑classroom duties when assigned
Provide impromptu lesson plans or activities as developmentally appropriate
Assist students with coursework toward mastery
Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher
Adapt instructional approach to meet unique individual needs of students
Provide detailed notes and summary on work completed
Communication
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, families, and community members
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
Long‑Term Assignments (two+ weeks)
Develop lesson plans for the length of assignment (use appropriate strategies, materials, and equipment)
Grade student work, provide feedback, enter grades in the online gradebook, and provide summative course grade in partnership with the certified staff member
Conduct family conferences as requested
Culture and Classroom Management
Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district
Create classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
Perform teaching‑related duties, including covering another class during an absent teacher’s planning period, lunchroom duty, hall duty, bus duty, or playground duty
Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Provide a safe learning environment and deploy proper classroom management strategies
Job Requirements (minimum)
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Substitute Teaching License
Technology: Familiar with cloud‑based solutions (Google Suite); willing to learn digital tools as needed
Physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity; 10% sitting, 50% walking, 40% standing
