Lab Technician – Microbiology

Shift: Evening (1545-0115)
Location: Trinity Health, Ann Arbor, MI
Hours: 36 per week
Description Primary responsibilities include performing all necessary procedures pertaining to accessioning and technical preparation of all pathology and cytology specimens. Must function with a high degree of technical expertise regarding handling of specimens to ensure accuracy of diagnoses made from specimens submitted for evaluation.
Responsibilities
Accessioning and technical preparation of pathology and cytology specimens.
Prioritizes workflow within the department, ensuring timely processing.
Uses laboratory computer system and equipment.
Evaluates orders and specimens for acceptability, maintains specimen identification.
Loads specimens on automated analyzer, performs culture plating techniques, reagent preparation.
Answers telephone inquiries, fax, mail and deliver reports.
Registers patients and places test orders, collects and receives patient samples when required.
Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, proficiency testing per standard patient testing protocol.
Maintains laboratory records and reports.
Qualifications
High School Diploma with 2 years college coursework (40-60 credit hours), emphasis in science or equivalent (12 science credits preferred).
Associates of Science, Applied Science or similar preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Analytical waived/moderately complex testing experience.
Proficiency in performing quality control, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Strong communication skills.
