Specific Responsibilities

Responsible for all supervisory duties including hiring, selection, performance plans, evaluations, planning & directing work, approving leave, and disciplinary actions.

Reports to the Public Health Nutrition Program Director of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.

Provides professional nutrition/dietetics services, licensed in Florida, implementing, coordinating, and supervising Nutrition Services, including Women’s, Infant’s, and Children’s (WIC), in a satellite clinic.

Independently promotes nutrition services, evaluates service delivery, and acts as consultant to County Health Department staff, allied community health and social agencies, group feeding facilities, providing peer in‑service and community education.

Works primarily at the main clinic but may work at other locations for training or staff relief.

Plans and implements WIC and Nutrition Services, directly supervising employees at the main and satellite clinic per DHM 150‑24.

Monitors and evaluates employee performance through record reviews, audits, observations, and monthly conferences (more frequent if needed).

Completes annual performance evaluations (6‑month review) and updates position descriptions every three years.

Participates in Quality Assurance Monitoring per Nutrition Program Director and State WIC Office.

Provides WIC services to clients, certifies and recertifies women, infants, and children for WIC participation.

Performs related work as required by agency policy.

Attends professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.

Maintains professional licensure and required CEU’s.

Completes supervisory training within 6 months of hire.

Acts as designated Information Custodian for WIC Records – Ringling Clinic data sets.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic computer skills.

Interpersonal skills.

Ability to use program‑related software.

Knowledge of dietetic practice.

Ability to organize and direct the work of others.

Qualifications Minimum

Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, clinical nutrition, nutritional science, community nutrition, food and nutrition, or public health nutrition.

Licensed Dietitian in Florida (Chapter 468, Part X) or eligible per Chapter 64B8‑40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code.

Work experience providing nutrition education.

Preferred

Experience providing breastfeeding education and support.

Previous WIC employment.
