Overview
The Ambulatory Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.
Responsibilities
Provide and facilitate competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
Ensure adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
Ensure documentation of care is complete and accurate.
Provide health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
Act as preceptor and support development of other staff and healthcare students.
Provide leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
Administer medication (IM, PO, Rectal, IV, SQ, in inhaled).
Perform procedures: Ear washes, Nebulizer Treatments, Peak Flows, Splint Applications, Crutch Training, Wound Care, Point of Care Testing, IV starts and therapy, Vision Screenings, EKG, Catheterizations, Suture/Staple removal.
Assist providers with procedures such as vaginal exams, suture and staple placement, incision and drainage.
Member of the Code Team when needed.
Nurse Lead when assigned during shift.
Serve as preceptor for new employees.
Perform patient education.
Perform waiting room and exam room rounding.
Collect and process specimens.
Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow‑up instructions at the direction of the provider.
Assist with prescription medication refills per department protocols.
Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and document actions within the EMR per provider orders.
Maintain department‑specific competencies related to point‑of‑care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
Clean instruments.
Room patients: collect pertinent information regarding chief complaint, vital signs, and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit.
Complete telephone triage and necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other health care facilities.
Communicate test results to patients via phone and use of My Carle by working the nurse inbox.
Qualifications
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA), valid within 1 year.
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association (AHA), valid within 1 year.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA), valid within 30 days.
Education H.S. Diploma or GED.
Work Experience Relevant work experience at Carle Health.

Salary Range The compensation range for this position is $32.21 per hour – $55.4 per hour.
