Position Overview

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks a compassionate nursing professional to apply for our LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE II (LPN II) position in Taunton, MA. This is an excellent nursing opportunity for candidates interested in furthering their career and broadening their experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The LPN II is the second level in the series and will deliver care to residents in a community residential home setting. Responsibilities

Provide exceptional nursing care and oversight by implementing individuals’ health care plans, charting vital signs, applying medical/surgical dressings, and administering medications as prescribed. Assist with daily maintenance, personal care and other services outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP); maintain individual records and files. Initiate referrals for needed medical services, including scheduling, hospital safeguarding, advocacy and follow‑up care. Communicate health issues to staff and update families/guardians regarding hospitalizations, rehabilitation support such as physical/occupational therapy. Inform staff of any medical concerns related to activity level that may hinder an individual’s progress. Order medications and maintain medical supplies, materials and equipment. Initiate emergency medical procedures by applying basic first aid techniques, CPR, tracheotomy care and catheterizations. Provide training for direct support staff on equipment use and treatments. Transport individuals to work, medical appointments, recreational activities and other community engagements as needed. Position Requirements

Must possess a current, active license to practice as an LPN in Massachusetts. Must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience as a licensed practical nurse. Agency Requirements

Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Incumbents must obtain and maintain Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must complete Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) training; failure to complete training disqualifies the applicant. Preferred Qualifications

Ability to develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical, and empowering relationship with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Capacity to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility. Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods and techniques. Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information. Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. Aptitude to read and comprehend the English language. Schedule & Work Conditions

Full‑time — 40 hours; 11:00 pm – 7:00 am. Days off are Thursday & Friday. Flexibility is required to meet program needs. The position is designated as an “EMERGENCY” position under the Department’s Emergency Plan; reporting may be required during a state‑wide emergency. The program operates 24‑hours/7‑days; mandatory overtime may be required. Pre‑Hire Process

Recommended candidates must successfully complete pre‑employment screening which includes: Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) Abuse Registry Search. Criminal background check (CORI). National background check, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, with fingerprint‑based procedure. Compensation & Benefits

Salary placement is determined by candidate years of directly related experience, education, and alignment with the Internal Compensation Structure per the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. The position is included in the non‑management bargaining unit and is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
