Shift

12 Hour Night Shift (Part‑time, 24 scheduled weekly hours)

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the RN, provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services within the scope of practical nursing to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled patients.

Assist the RN in collecting patient data, accompanying patients, and responding to patient/family service requests.

Pass medications and administer IV therapy as delegated.

Admit patients to the emergency department, coordinate with the charge nurse when patient needs exceed LPN scope, and maintain patient flow.

Document all data gathered and care given; follow ProHealth guidelines and communicate status to physicians.

Implement skilled technical care within LPN license limits, applying appropriate protocols per physician order or charge nurse consultation.

Respond to call lights, monitor alarms, and provide assistance to patients and families.

Collect and record patient data (food/fluid intake and output, weight, vital signs, calorie counts, demographics).

Manage IV fluids and medication administration, ensuring safe and appropriate delivery of oral, subcutaneous, or intramuscular meds.

Observe patients for adverse reactions, report findings to medical personnel.

Perform wound care, enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, massages, and other basic procedures.

Assist patients in walking, turning, bathing, dressing, and food feeding as appropriate.

Collect specimens (urine, blood, sputum) for testing.

Prepare and examine food trays for prescribed diet, feed patients, and wash bodies of deceased persons.

Assist in delivery, care, and feeding of infants and assemble equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies.

Sterilize equipment, inventory and requisition supplies, and use computerized systems to acquire supplies and enter patient data.

Maintain a clean, orderly environment.

Provide patient education materials and coordinate discharge follow‑up, completing ExpressCare log entries and supporting patients with future care appointments.

Participate effectively as a member of the healthcare team.

Develop and pursue personal professional goals, meet organizational obligations, and precept new employees or students in the unit.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED and successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.

Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.

BLS certification by the end of the core orientation period.

Ability to demonstrate specific clinical competencies required for LPN functions during a 3‑month orientation period.

Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, input and retrieve data from computerized systems, and rotate within service lines and related areas.

Effective communication with patients, visitors, and all care team members; clear, understandable, and grammatically correct speaking and writing; comforting and positive demeanor.

Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods, lift lightweight objects (≤20 lbs), and assist in patient lifting and moving.
