Early Childhood Specialist (ECS)
STGi seeks an Early Childhood Specialist to support the Head Start Training and Technical Assistance team. The position is remote with up to 50% travel to Head Start locations. The candidate must reside in Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota or Utah.
Job Overview The ECS provides professional expertise in early childhood education and development by delivering consultation, training, policy, and procedure development, and statewide agency collaboration. The ECS delivers intensive training and technical assistance to Head Start and Early Head Start recipients based on Regional or Area Office assignments, requiring travel and on‑site work ranging from one day to several weeks.
Essential Functions
Provide on‑site, group, or virtual Technical Training and Assistance (TTA) related to school readiness, family engagement, professional development, and implementation of a research‑based coaching model.
Offer TTA related to ongoing child assessment, curriculum, teaching, and learning environments appropriate across the birth‑to‑five spectrum.
Support recipients to improve teacher/child interactions using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and other assessment data measures.
Assist recipients to develop procedures and skills for using data from multiple sources, including ongoing child assessment data.
Guide recipients to implement family engagement practices that support early learning and development and parent‑child relationships described in the Parent Family and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework.
Help recipients strengthen birth‑to‑five transition practices and collaborate with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), state agencies, and other partners.
Coordinate TTA with Grantee, Family Engagement, and Health Specialists to ensure effective integration across service areas.
Maintain regular communication with Regional or Area Office staff and document progress in required OHS reporting systems such as SmartHub and the Head Start Enterprise System.
Participate in meetings, including National TTA meetings, Regional or Area Office meetings, team conferences, and one‑on‑one meetings as directed by OHS and the ECS Manager.
Support emerging OHS initiatives and priorities.
Required Experience and Skills
Develop, train, and present to individuals and groups.
Familiarity with the Improving School Readiness for Head Start Act of 2007, Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, OHS Monitoring Protocols, and related regulations.
Knowledge of software systems that hold training and child outcome data at the grant recipient level.
Understanding of developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and sustained concentration.
Prioritization and workload management skills.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Flexibility to work on‑site for periods of time.
CLASS TOT certification, as required by individual regions.
Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
Minimum of five years experience working directly with children birth‑to‑five and providing technical assistance to teachers, home visitors, family childcare providers, coaches, and management team members.
Experience facilitating group discussions and presenting to a range of audiences, including virtual formats.
Experience analyzing data and assisting programs to make data‑driven decisions.
Experience providing training and technical assistance related to school readiness goals, plans, and management systems.
Experience working in center‑based, home‑based, and family childcare options.
Experience with trauma‑informed care.
Experience supporting children with special needs and dual language learners.
Strong oral and written communication skills adaptable to different audiences.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Suite experience and familiarity with webinar technology and Smart Sheets.
Required Education A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, development, or a related field from an accredited university or college. Some ECS positions require coursework specific to infants and toddlers.

Travel up to 50% as assigned.
