Job Details The PAT RN is responsible for preparing patients for surgery by conducting pre‑admission assessments, including physical examinations, medical history reviews, and diagnostic tests. The role reports to the PreOp/PACU Charge Nurse and works closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients are informed about their procedures, address concerns, and coordinate care plans to optimize surgical outcomes.
Responsibilities
Conduct pre‑admission assessments.
Perform physical examinations and medical history reviews.
Administer diagnostic tests such as EKGs and lab work.
Document findings and update patient records.
Inform patients about surgical procedures and post‑operative care.
Address patient concerns and answer questions.
Provide instructions regarding pre‑operative preparations.
Coordinate care plans with anesthesiologists and surgeons.
Communicate patient needs and special requirements to the surgical team.
Ensure all pre‑operative requirements are met.
Maintain patient safety by monitoring for adverse reactions and implementing safety protocols.
Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
Report test results and assessments to the surgical team.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
Required Qualifications
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in pre‑ and post‑surgical patient care.
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Minimum of 3 years experience in pre‑admission testing or surgical nursing.
Certification in Pre‑Admission Testing Nursing (PATN).
Salary Range:
$78,000 + depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions
Standard office equipment; repetitive use of keyboard.
May be exposed to communicable diseases, blood‑borne pathogens, ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients.
Employment Eligibility Regular staff who have been employed for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings, including promotional and lateral transfer opportunities. Staff eligible for promotion/transfer may apply without supervisor approval.
Background Check A criminal history background check will be required for finalists under consideration.
