Medical Assistant – Urgent Care (Full Time) Location
Lynnfield and Middleboro, Massachusetts Overview
The Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) team is inviting experienced and certified Medical Assistants to join our busy Urgent Care offices. The role supports high quality, direct patient care within a team‑based model for our BIDHC patients. Responsibilities include clinical, administrative and population health tasks in a practice that operates Monday through Sunday 8 am to 7 pm. Primary Responsibilities
Build empathetic relationships with patients, families and colleagues to contribute to patient care and practice goals. Assist patients throughout their visit: facilitate timely flow, engage patients on visit reason, update medication and allergy lists, review screening questions (e.g., PHQ‑9), and act as liaison between patient and practice staff. Communicate clearly with patient and team: provide hand‑off to provider entering the exam room (reason for visit, abnormal vitals, patient stories). Perform medical assisting duties under proper supervision, including vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, point‑of‑care testing, phlebotomy, immunizations (certified MAs only) and assistance during routine procedures. Lead conversations to meet quality and population health goals through outreach, health coaching and data gathering. Monitor, order and maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring proper sterilization, stocking and expiration control. Work within the electronic health record system (EHR) to queue prescription renewals, add new medications, enter/scribe orders for tests, services or appointments, and accurately document tasks performed for billing. Schedule diagnostic and lab tests to accommodate patient and provider needs; verify patient insurance, prior authorizations, referrals and pre‑certifications. Identify OSHA compliance issues, ensure patient safety practices and promptly report adverse patient events and near misses. Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Health Science preferred. Medical Assistant Certificate preferred; other certifications (RN, CNA, EMT Basic, Phlebotomy) preferred. 0–1 year related work experience required. Demonstrated Medical Assistant competencies within one year of hire. Basic computer familiarity; ability to navigate basic web‑based applications. Preferred Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant. Decision making, problem solving, independent action, written and oral communication, knowledge, teamwork, customer service, ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Physical & Environmental Requirements
Medium work: Exert up to 50 lbs occasionally or 20 lbs frequently; frequent standing, moving, bending, twisting, power grasping, fine manipulation, keyboard use, reaching.
