Description of Work As an HVAC Refrigeration Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, adjustment, monitoring, and operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment at Middletown Airbase. You will perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all HVAC units, assist in the installation of liquid petroleum and natural gas related equipment, install new units and component parts, make adjustments, repair various types of HVAC systems, identify and troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions, perform diagnostics and testing, prepare material lists, maintain records, and return unused materials and equipment to stock.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week

Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

Qualifications Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or

Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment, including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.

Special Requirements

Active motor vehicle license.

EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.

Additional Requirements

Pass favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening and possess one of the following for admittance to the Middletown Air Base: valid REAL‑ID‑compliant driver’s license, other REAL‑ID‑compliant identification cards, alternative acceptable document such as a passport, or military/CAC/retirees’ ID card.

Be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

Willingness and ability to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

EPA Universal Certification.

Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.

Experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of refrigeration and HVAC systems, units, and equipment.

Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and/or wiring diagrams/schematics.

Experience making adjustments and repairs to the heating systems (steam, hot water, and gas) and refrigeration and freezer units (reach‑in and walk‑in).

Experience installing refrigeration or HVAC systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices.

Experience performing preventive maintenance on all related equipment.

Experience responding to emergencies by going onsite and troubleshooting problems.

Experience making adjustments online or in‑person, if necessary, to maintain comfortable conditions.

Experience conducting building inspections to ensure adequate heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, and circulation in buildings.
