Job Summary Provides direction on the development and delivery of challenge course activities for the Salvation Army camps. Deliver challenge-course activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate for campers’ ages and abilities. Manages the physical operation of the challenge course facilities and equipment.
Essential Functions
Expands the camp’s challenge course activities with new challenges.
Delivers progressive challenge course program activities.
Trains other staff in their challenge course responsibilities.
Ensures that all participants wear properly fitted protective headgear.
Evaluates and documents the challenge course abilities of campers and staff.
Ensures the record-keeping of regular inspections and maintenance of all equipment and elements used in adventure/challenge activities.
Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
Some physical requirements include endurance (climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching).
Eye–hand coordination and manual dexterity are required to manipulate challenge course equipment and activities.
Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility.
Exposed daily to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
Qualifications Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Two years’ experience leading sports, recreation, or challenge course activities preferred.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications
Must be at least 21 years old.
Certification, documented training, or experience from a recognized organization or certifying body for the types of activities offered.
CPR and First Aid Certification.
