Summary The PALACE Acquire Program offers a permanent position upon completion of a 3‑year formal training plan. As an Intern you will develop personal and professional skills while addressing change, complexity, and problem solving. The program includes yearly salary increases with promotions and salary increases based on performance and supervisory approval.

Duties

Performs general engineering tasks of limited scope and difficulty screened by a higher‑grade engineer.

Assists in general engineering work of limited scope and complexity in support of projects assigned to higher‑grade engineers.

Uses engineering manuals, standard publications and technical material to obtain information and pertinent data for higher‑level engineers, contractors and/or customers.

Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional development to remain current in the field and apply to work assignments.

Uses computers and software (e.g., analysis tools, project tracking) to solve engineering problems and facilitate work.

For GS‑0858: Applies biomedical engineering knowledge to support higher‑grade engineer tasks; participates in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies; uses CAD/CADD programs; analyzes problems and recommends solutions; prepares recommendations, calculations, graphs, tables; communicates clearly in writing and orally.

Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS for GS‑7 and GS‑9

Professional engineering degree (ABET accredited or equivalent).

Coursework includes differential and integral calculus; advanced courses in statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, or comparable engineering sciences.

GS‑7 Eligibility Options

Four‑year bachelor’s degree (ABET accredited) plus documented Superior Academic Achievement (e.g., GPA ≥ 2.95, class standing upper third, honor society membership).

Or one full year of graduate studies (18 semester hours) or higher degree (Master’s, Ph.D.) in a qualifying field; transcripts required.

GS‑9 Eligibility

Two years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent.

GPA ≥ 2.95 or equivalent; transcripts required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)

For GS series 0801/0806/0830/0840/0850/0854/0855/0861/0893/0896: ability to perform engineering tasks of limited scope, use manuals and standards, analyze problems, and apply emerging technologies.

For GS‑0858: professional biomedical engineering knowledge; planning and conducting studies; using CAD/CADD; data analysis; clear communication.
