The Senior Director, Accounting – North America Controller is the senior accounting leader for the North America region, with responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and governance of financial reporting across multiple light manufacturing operations. This role oversees regional accounting through three Business Controllers and ensures consistent application of accounting policies, strong internal controls, and disciplined cost and inventory accounting.
The North America Controller partners closely with operations, supply chain, FP&A, and executive leadership to support margin management, operational decision-making, and scalable growth, while maintaining compliance with IFRS and corporate standards.
Key Responsibilities Regional Accounting Leadership
Serve as the senior accounting authority for all North America manufacturing entities and distribution operations.
Lead and align three Business Controllers supporting individual plants, product lines, or business units.
Establish regional accounting standards, governance, and escalation processes.
Act as the primary accounting partner to North America finance and operations leadership.
Set yourself apart Financial Close & Reporting
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the North America region.
Ensure timely and accurate regional financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
Review and approve key estimates and judgments, including reserves, accruals, and inventory valuation.
Be the point of contact for most of the communication with the Global Finance team.
Partner with FP&A to ensure accurate manufacturing cost data, margin reporting, and variance analysis.
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting Oversight
Provide leadership and oversight for:
Standard cost setting and maintenance
Bill of materials (BOM) accuracy and routing integrity
Inventory valuation, obsolescence, and excess & slow-moving (E&O) reserves
Cost absorption, overhead allocation, and labor efficiency
Physical inventory counts and cycle count programs
Ensure accurate product costing and gross margin reporting across plants.
Partner with operations and supply chain to explain and improve manufacturing variances.
Controls, Compliance & Audit
Maintain a strong internal control environment across North America manufacturing operations, including SOX compliance where applicable.
Serve as the primary regional contact for external and internal auditors.
Ensure proper controls over inventory, fixed assets, and capital projects.
Lead remediation of audit findings and control gaps.
Technical Accounting & Policy Oversight
Provide guidance on complex accounting matters, including:
Revenue recognition for manufactured goods
Inventory capitalization and variances
Fixed assets, capitalization, depreciation, and impairments
Leases and intercompany manufacturing arrangements
Review and approve technical accounting analyses and documentation.
Partner with corporate accounting on new accounting standards and policy updates.
Business Partnership & Strategic Support
Support manufacturing and supply chain leadership on cost, margin, and capacity decisions.
Provide accounting leadership for capital investment decisions and post-implementation reviews.
Support M&A activity and integration of acquired manufacturing operations.
Balance strong controls with operational practicality in a plant environment.
People Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, coach, and develop three Business Controllers and their extended teams.
Build accounting talent with strong manufacturing and operational acumen.
Drive consistency and best practices across plant accounting organizations.
Support succession planning and leadership development.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
12–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing environments.
Prior experience as a Regional Controller, Division Controller, or Plant Controller leader.
Strong knowledge of accounting rules (US GAAP at a minimum, IFRS ideally) with deep expertise in manufacturing and cost accounting.
Experience overseeing multiple plants or business units.
ERP implementation experience in manufacturing environments (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar).
M&A and integration experience pref
