General Description: The Risk Management Administrator is responsible for college-wide planning, coordination, and management of the comprehensive risk management department. This position’s goal is to protect the College from exposure to risks by assessing and mitigating risks across the institution. This position is responsible for managing and processing all aspects of risk management claims and insurance documentation for NOVA. The Risk Management Administrator interfaces with all departments at the College ensuring the highest level of customer service, ensures maintenance of accurate records, and acts as the primary liaison with insurance agencies and the State Division of Risk Management.

Duties and Tasks

Conduct risk analysis, advise on potential risks, and recommend improvements to college processes. Gather feedback from the college community to advocate NOVA’s needs.

Collaborate with other departments to develop and update college-wide policies related to risk management. Ensure that policies are aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Analyze risk management data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Summarize issues to senior management on risk management activities and concerns.

Maintain documentation and claim information for the Office of Risk Management, ensuring timely submission of paperwork and managing escalated concerns.

Engage with external stakeholders, including insurance providers, external agencies, and other organizations, to ensure effective risk management practices.

Foster relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff to assist in mitigating the risk for the college.

Provide a high level of customer service and manage confidential materials with discretion.

Develop and manage the risk management budget. Allocate resources effectively to support risk management activities and recover costs from insurance agencies and track accordingly.

Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in the NOVA Brief.

Minimum Work Experience

Experience in risk management and managing claims on behalf of an organization.

Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing risk mitigation strategies.

Experience in budget management, tracking, and allocation.

Experience maintaining a high level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

Experience working on projects.

Customer service experience.

Additional Considerations

Experience following and applying College, VCCS, and State policies and procedures.

Background in higher education is a plus.
