Duties GS‑07 Responsibilities:

Perform developmental assignments in the application of professional principles, techniques, and procedures related to the investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, molecular structure, and properties of substances.

Perform recurring assignments of limited but increasing difficulty as directed by supervisor or team lead.

Participate in special initiatives, studies, and projects; work with specialists to plan, perform research, and conduct studies.

Prepare written correspondence and other documentation: draft responses to routine inquiries, reports, letters, and related materials.

GS‑09 Responsibilities:

Perform developmental assignments in investigating, analyzing, and interpreting the composition, molecular structure, and properties of substances, including transformations and energies.

Determine tasks and procedures to accomplish conventional work; adapt guidelines to resolve procedural or factual issues.

Carry out special projects and initiatives; collaborate with specialists on studies.

Prepare written correspondence and documentation (newsletter items, inquiries, reports, letters, and related documents).

Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplementary coursework in mathematics (differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

You may qualify if you meet one of the following:

GS‑7 : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level. GPA requirements:

2.95 or higher out of 4.0 on official transcript, or

3.45 or higher based on required courses in major field during final 2 years.

GS‑9 : Two years of graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent. GPA requirements:

2.95 or higher out of 4.0 on official transcript, or

3.45 or higher based on required courses in major field during final 2 years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

Professional knowledge of chemistry theories, principles, and standard practices sufficient to perform assignments.

Skill in applying principles and practices to complete assignments.

Knowledge to prepare studies, reports, and correspondence.

Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.

Ability to plan, organize work, consult with coworkers, and apply analytical techniques.

Education Transcripts must be provided to support educational claims. All education must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accrediting institution. Official transcripts are required upon selection.

Foreign Education : Must be deemed equivalent to U.S. conventional education; provide evidence of equivalency.

Additional Information Direct‐Hire Authority for Post‑Secondary Students and Recent Graduates under DoD. Positions may be permanent or term, full‑time or part‑time. Pay varies by location. Current post‑secondary students are enrolled in a full‑time program with at least one year completed; recent graduates earned a degree within the last two years.
