Overview The Interpreter will provide interpretation within the State of Arizona to reach individuals with a language barrier. Interpretation will include services in Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services, among others.
This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.
Responsibilities
Accurately interpret spoken work situations such as lectures, conversations, and meetings.
Utilize technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications – What’s Needed
High School / BA Degree or equivalent with experience.
Medical Interpreting Training School
Foreign Service Institute
Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
Experience with State Department, refugees, FDA, Health & Human Services, Medical, Legal, Housing Authority, etc.
3+ years of interpretation or translation experience in Mam language.
Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
Must possess problem‑solving skills.
Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
Ability to forge new relationships, both individually and as part of a team.
Must be a self‑starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
Reports to: Deputy Program Manager
Working Conditions
Professional environment.
Must be on‑call; interpreter will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
Must be able to travel to different locations to interpret in‑person.
Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods of time.
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
Must establish a productive and professional workspace.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at a computer screen.
May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
