Job Summary Building Maintenance Supervisor for the Yankton Minimum Center supervising offenders working on construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, snow removal and preventative maintenance.
Duties
Provide cost estimates for proposed projects.
Inspect facilities and identify maintenance projects.
Assign and direct tasks, train offenders, students, inmates, or temporary staff.
Perform skilled building maintenance tasks in electrical, plumbing, finish carpentry, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, painting, locksmith, and preventive maintenance.
Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
Repair steam radiators and air handling units.
Maintain air conditioning units (add coolant, clean coils, replace filters, adjust controls).
Repair or replace plumbing lines and fixtures in buildings or facilities.
Measure, cut, and install appropriate pipes, fittings, and valves.
Build or remodel interior and exterior of buildings to meet required maintenance needs.
Complete required reports and records to verify costs and account for activities.
Account for equipment, tools and supplies and verify distribution.
Perform general maintenance duties to ensure safe and continued operation of the facility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Decision-Making Authority
Specify materials needed, ensure design and code criteria are followed.
Assign and schedule building maintenance workers.
Design remodeling or construction projects.
Conduct performance appraisals of staff.
Approve annual or sick leave requests.
Exped budget dollars for materials and supplies.
Order supplies and materials.
Working Conditions Duties are typically performed within a building but may be required to be outside to inspect projects on the exteriors of buildings. The incumbent may be exposed to hazards associated with mechanical rooms, tunnels, crawl spaces, and asbestos-lined areas.
Ideal Candidate
Safety measures and occupational hazard training.
Experience in any of the trades: construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, snow removal/yard work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of construction and maintenance trades.
Knowledge of safety measures and occupational hazards of the trades.
Effective methods of supervision.
Keep records and inventory reports for accounting.
Communicate information clearly.
Use a computer.
Establish and maintain effective supervisory relationships.
Plan and schedule work assignments; keep records.
Read, interpret, and work from sketches, blueprints, and specifications.
Keep thorough and accurate records.
Deal tactfully with others.
Communicate information clearly and concisely.
Perform tasks in the trade areas supervised.
Veterans’ Preference This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
Background and Physical Requirements Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening and pre-employment physical.
