Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Finance Director the Accounting Specialist reconciles general ledger accounts, reconciles benefit accounts, prepares reports, and closes general ledger monthly and annually.

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance, including cash escrow bonds, accounts receivable month end balances, and payroll liability accounts.

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.

Reconcile State disbursement reports with general ledger transactions quarterly and annually.

Assist Finance Director with grant tracking.

Prepare and process journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.

Support cost allocation plan and annual audit activities by compiling documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.

Perform upload of Department of Human Services monthly file to general ledger for inclusion in monthly reports.

Perform monthly retirement reporting for legacy and hybrid employees (VRS & VOY A) as well as optional life reporting.

Prepare monthly benefit reconciliations by reconciling vendor invoices to payroll reports.

Process checks/ACH/manual payments for monthly benefit reconciliations.

Assist with preparation of revenue and expense reports for departments and offices; work with County employees to answer questions related to accounting, reports, and financial transaction.

Provide administrative support such as filing, data entry, and maintenance of financial records.

Assist with other departmental tasks and special projects, as required.

Perform related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in business, accounting, finance, or other related field.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in business, accounting, finance, or other related field (preferred).

Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in accounting (preferred).

Certifications/Licenses: N/A.

Other: Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered to meet the education and experience requirements, if it provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
