Pay Range Base: $48.10/hr – $58.46/hr (actual pay based on skills and experience)

Job Overview The City of El Cajon is looking for motivated individuals who want to make a direct impact on the community as a Police Recruit. The department is a full‑service City with a commitment to safe and secure community through service, mutual cooperation, and respect.

Screening and Training Candidates are being screened for the Regional Police Academy.

Physical Abilities Test (PAT) / POST PELLETB Exam (T‑Score 42) is scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Typical Duties

Application Period and Review

Submit application and attachments by the deadline.

Provide valid outside PELLETB score (T‑Score 42.0 or higher, taken within 6 months of the exam date).

Examination Phase

Complete Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

Pass POST Entry‑Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) – T‑Score ≥ 42.0.

Eligibility List and Pre‑Employment Process

Placed on eligibility list and referred for Personal History Statement, Panel Interview, Polygraph, Pre‑Investigative Questionnaire, Captain’s Interview, Background Investigation, Chief’s Interview.

Additional Information

All candidates undergo psychological examination and pre‑employment medical examination.

Physical and Equipment Requirements Officers work three 12.5‑hour shifts. New recruits are provided all equipment.
