Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
Participates in the assessment, administration, and evaluation of respiratory therapy treatments, pulmonary function testing, performs extubations, airway management and ventilatory life support to critical adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients
Participates with other health care professionals in obtaining, interpreting and evaluating pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases, airway management and respiratory treatments
Provides instruction to patients in the use of respiratory therapy equipment, inhalation gases and other therapies related to the treatment of respiratory diseases and/or the promotion of respiratory wellness
Other Functions
Responsible for the cleaning, care and maintenance of all equipment used in the delivery of respiratory treatments and pulmonary function testing
Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
Credentialed by the NBRC as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist at time of hire.
Respiratory Therapy license from any state
High school diploma or GED
Basic Life Support
ACLS & PALS required within 3 months of hire
Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and every year
Experience Required
Two years’ experience as a certified Respiratory Therapist preferred.
Knowledge of
Respiratory care modalities for adults, pediatrics, and neonatal patients
Skills in
Use of mechanical ventilators skillfully and offers alternative solutions; cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Ability to
Accurately interpret arterial blood gases; use of mechanical ventilators; work alone/unsupervised
Work under adverse conditions such as communicable infectious diseases
Travel Required
Up to 25% travel expected.

Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
Certified Respiratory Therapist - National Board for Respiratory Care
