Duties The Corrections’ Nurse is responsible for the 24‑hour health care of offenders at their assigned institution. Duties may vary based on area of assignment. Responsibilities include:
Conduct physical assessments in response to offender ailments.
Establish nursing diagnosis and refer offenders to a practitioner.
Provide medication and treatment as ordered, monitor compliance, and observe effectiveness.
Provide health‑related education to staff and offenders.
Maintain department compliance for inspections.
Work Hours and Additional Information
Full‑time employment.
8‑hour shifts; 40‑hour work week.
Three work shifts cover the facility 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:
1st shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
2nd shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
3rd shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Work hours to be determined.
Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework: not available.
Selected candidates new to employment in Pennsylvania will begin at a starting annual salary of $88,130 before taxes.
Qualifications
Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
Employees with an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure within one year.
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
Eligible to apply if within 60 days of graduating from an approved nursing school.
Must prove possession of a valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license at appointment.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA required.
Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
