The Senior Pathology Technician provides primary technical support to Hazardous Materials Management and secondary technical support as needed in Surgical Pathology, Histology, Cytology, Autopsy, and Microbiology.
This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, benefits-eligible day-shift position.
DHMC and Clinics is offering a $2,500 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. *External applicants only, and certain conditions apply.
Responsibilities
Coordinates Anatomic Pathology hazardous materials management to include maintenance of documentation of alcohol activity to meet ATF & EPA requirements, scheduling daily hazardous materials management activities, serving as the Laboratory representative for weekly facility inspections, maintaining solvent recycling equipment including preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, and general operations, and providing training and support to technicians who share in the hazardous materials management responsibilities.
Removes hazardous bulk waste materials from the laboratory. Ensures all material is labeled and in appropriate containers before removal to the storage shed.
Maintains inventory of flammable materials and formalin. Distributes materials to areas within Anatomic Pathology.
Maintains recycling activities for solvents. Ensures that all material is properly labeled and stored. Maintains appropriate logs and recycling equipment.
Assists with the collection and storage of hazardous waste from the clinical laboratory.
Inspects waste storage shed.
Ensures that drums are grounded.
Coordinates the cross-training, scheduling, and back-up of all Pathology Technicians to ensure the most effective utilization of staff.
Provides input to assigned performance appraisals.
Assists in the development and maintenance of Technician competencies.
Prepares and distributes weekly staff schedules, working with the supervisor to resolve scheduling conflicts and staffing shortages.
Prepares reagents for the area of responsibility.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate with 3 years of appropriate laboratory experience required.
Associate’s degree in science or licensed school of mortuary science preferred.
