Job Duties Performs general and emergency repairs to nuclear plant main and auxiliary electrical equipment. Equipment includes main generators and exciters, motors, motor controls, circuit breakers, disconnects, switchyards, transformers, switchboards, station lighting, cranes, batteries, relays, telephones, air‑conditioning equipment, and other pertinent equipment pertaining to the plant. This work will consist of the dismantling and assembling of equipment, the renewal of parts, and troubleshooting and adjustment of controls, any of which may be of solid‑state type.
A minor portion of time will be spent in connection with infrequent construction work, making up necessary job reports, and periodic checking of general operating conditions of electrical equipment.
Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of a TVA‑recognized, Department of Labor‑approved craft journeyman apprenticeship program, or the equivalent education, training, and experience. Should have at least a high school education or equivalent and several years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment. The position requires a thorough knowledge of electrical characteristics of equipment installed in the plant, which includes motors, generators, control equipment, oil switches, relays, transformers, batteries, and communication equipment. Another prerequisite is the capacity to apply this knowledge to the correct procedure to be followed in all emergencies as well as during routine attention.
Supervision Received He/she is under the direct supervision of a foreman, who assigns and checks work during progress as well as completed work for proper performance, and under the general supervision of an Assistant Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility May direct the work of apprentices, helpers, or laborers assigned to him/her.
