The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well‑being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

Responsibilities The PI nurse participates in the development of audit criteria and monitoring of hospital services to provide quality patient care. The PI Nurse provides consultation to staff regarding standards and regulatory requirements, and collaborates with medical, professional, and supportive staff. The PI nurse participates in event reviews, analyzes incidents, identifies and evaluates risks concerning patient rights and safety, and recommends improvements in patient care and service delivery. The PI nurse develops and implements programmatic goals and objectives for hospital continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Administrative Policy manual, Clinical Care Policy Manual, State licensure regulations, Federal/Certification standards, CMS regulations, TJC Hospital standards, DHSR regulation and directives and Nurse Practice Act.

Proficiency in computer use, especially Word and Excel.

Knowledge of use of medical equipment and related infection control issues to evaluate the quality of their use by others.

Maintains working knowledge of standards and regulations of CSM/TJC, Clinical Care Plan, Division Directives, and State/Federal laws governing the hospital.

Minimum Education and Experience: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.

Sign‑On Bonus A sign‑on bonus of $10,000 may be offered contingent on budget approval. Eligibility requires a newly hired permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time employee to work 30–40 hours per week. Employees working less than 40 hours a week receive a prorated rate. Employees who have held a position in North Carolina State government or the UNC system within the last 12 months, who have previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency, or who are paid any contract placement or recruitment fees are ineligible.
