Helmholtz Zentrum München
Clinical AI Consultant (f/m/x)
Job ID: 102855
Full time 39 hrs./week Neuherberg near Munich Partial Home Office possible
Shape the future of clinical AI and join us as a
Clinical AI Consultant (f/m/x)
at Helmholtz Munich. Our goal is to empower clinicians and medical researchers to harness AI for real-world impact.
Since its inception in 2020, the Helmholtz AI consultant team has been providing Machine Learning (ML) and AI expertise to health research scientists from Germany’s largest research organization, the Helmholtz Association, with great success. We are now embarking on the journey to translate this concept to medicine, bridge the gap between cutting‑edge research and clinical applications, and to bring AI solutions close to patient care.
We offer you the unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in machine learning and AI in a vibrant international environment. You will scope and develop AI tools for unique datasets generated during clinical practice by our partners. You will also play a crucial role in achieving our long‑term goal of deploying and evaluating those tools in the clinics.
Your tasks
Conceptualize, develop and maintain machine learning models to solve concrete clinical questions, in close collaboration with clinical partners and the Helmholtz AI consultant team
Develop quality software to bring those models into proof‑of‑concept tools and deploy them in the clinics
Be a point of contact for questions related to ML/AI and medical applications
Provide critical assessments of the projects of our clinical partners
Continuously learn about state‑of‑the‑art and emerging AI methods for clinical applications
Your profile
An excellent master’s degree or a PhD in computer science, software engineering, data science, physics or another field related to data science
A track record in implementing state‑of‑the‑art applied ML/AI pipelines in Python (please provide a link to your GitHub/huggingface profile), ideally combined with a background in healthcare or biomedical data analysis
Proficiency developing production‑quality software in object‑oriented programming with Python; experience developing small user interfaces (e.g. with Python, PyQt, Dash, JavaScript/React) is a plus
Experience with software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and operations, ideally in an open‑source context
A high degree of autonomy, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with different stakeholders
Strong team spirit and enthusiasm for sharing best practices
If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public‑Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
We support mobile work, and specific mobile working days can be agreed upon with the line manager, but the position cannot be offered as a fully remote position.
Managing Director Mike Frieser:
„We believe that diversity is the key to groundbreaking research and innovative solutions. Our flexible working models and remote options create a supportive environment for balancing work and family life. For us, contributing to a healthier society in such an inspiring workplace is truly meaningful.“
