Finance Transformation Manager (Accounting Firm)
Full Time
Remote (US Only) with optional In-Person in Houston, TX
About FinOptimal FinOptimal began in 2015 as a side-hustle of a CFO and Controller who despised manual accounting work. After raising venture capital in 2021, we expanded into both accounting services and technology offerings, launching apps like Accruer, Booker, and Wrangler.
This role is part of our Services team, supporting clients across industries with best-in‑class accounting solutions and automation. We’re looking for someone who loves accounting and loves technology — someone who can close the books and talk to clients, while also building smarter, automated ways to get the work done.
What you'll do:
Own the first three month‑end closes for newly onboarded clients, delivering accurate, on‑time financials.
Design and implement the accounting and reporting framework during the first 90 days of a new client relationship, replacing manual processes with scalable, automated systems.
Build and maintain advanced workbooks in Google Sheets that streamline reporting, reduce errors, and eliminate repetitive work.
Hand off a clear, trainable bookkeeping system to another member of the accounting team that will carry the work forward on a recurring basis.
Troubleshoot and optimize accounting apps and integrations, including QuickBooks Online, third‑party tools, and FinOptimal’s proprietary technology.
Anticipate client needs and propose thoughtful, scalable solutions that balance accounting best practices with practical automation.
Collaborate closely with internal teams and client stakeholders to solve accounting and systems challenges in a professional, timely manner.
Who this role is perfect for:
You’ve been the “systems person” on your accounting team — the one fixing broken spreadsheets and rebuilding processes.
You enjoy both client‑facing accounting work and deep technical problem‑solving.
You get frustrated doing things manually when they could be automated.
You like building clean, reusable frameworks that other people can successfully run.
Who we're looking for:
A highly organized, detail‑oriented accountant who thrives in a client‑facing environment.
Someone with 5–10 years of accounting experience, including month‑end close, reconciliations, and reporting; CPA or public accounting background preferred.
Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills, with experience building flexible, resilient models (not fragile one‑off spreadsheets).
Experience working with automation tools such as Zapier, Google Apps Script, Excel macros, or similar, and the ability to troubleshoot when things don’t work.
Comfort using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate spreadsheet building, analysis, and problem‑solving.
Working knowledge of SQL in a business context (AI‑assisted is perfectly fine).
Strong communicator who can explain financials clearly to non‑finance stakeholders.
A problem‑solver who enjoys a fast‑paced environment and takes accountability seriously.
Requirements:
5–10 years of accounting experience (month‑end close, reconciliations, reporting).
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
Advanced Excel / Google Sheets proficiency with real‑world automation experience.
Experience with QuickBooks Online (multi‑entity experience is a plus).
Compensation:
$120,000 - $160,000 annual salary depending on experience
401K plan with employer match
Medical / Dental / Vision & Supplemental Insurance Coverage
Full premium paid, full HSA employer contribution if opting to go with the high‑deductible plan.
Low deductible and out of pocket plan fully paid if opting to not go with the high‑deductible plan
