As a valued member of our team, you will play an essential role in advancing CDM Smith's mission by:
Leveraging technical skills to design hydraulic systems for transportation projects ranging from urban thoroughfares to rural roads.
Amplifying the department’s reach through active marketing and project pursuit.
Working under seasoned Project Managers to lead task teams in roadway hydraulic component design.
Handling complex technical challenges with autonomy.
Nurturing junior colleagues and sharing expertise.
Steering engineers and technicians to ensure project success.
Collaborating across disciplines for collective goal attainment.
Responsibilities
Design hydraulic systems for transportation projects including ditches, culverts, storm sewer systems, outfall analysis, and drainage investigations.
Apply FHWA guidelines (e.g., Hydraulic Design Series 5, 7) to bridge and culvert hydraulic design over streams.
Design and permit stormwater systems for rural, urban, and limited‑access roadways.
Utilize Microstation CADD, Geopak Drainage Software, HY8, HECRAS, HEC‑1, HECHMS, ARCGIS, and OpenRoads Designer.
Adhere to NCDOT design standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
12 years of related experience or equivalent directly related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in roadway hydraulic design, including ditches, small pipe culverts, storm sewer systems, outfall analysis, and drainage investigations.
Experience with bridge and/or culvert hydraulic design over streams using FHWA design guidelines.
Experience designing and permitting stormwater systems for roadways of various types.
Proficiency with Microstation CADD and Geopak Drainage Software, HY8, HECRAS, HEC‑1, HECHMS, ARCGIS, and OpenRoads Designer.
Familiarity with NCDOT design standards.
