Under the general direction of the Production Manager, the primary role of the Production Technician involves the mixing and casting of materials to create syntactic foam materials. Other production responsibilities around the plant may be assigned as workload permits.
First Shift 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Hourly Rate $21.00
Essential Job Functions
Mixing & Casting:
Understands safety and procedural issues for mixing process
Reads and understands the production process instruction sheet and identifies all relevant equipment
Reads and understands batch card and identifies all chemical components.
Ensures material availability for upcoming production
Ensures equipment availability for upcoming mixes (mixers and ovens)
Identifies and inspects molds for casting (preparation, release, and maintenance)
Measures and mixes HYTAC and ESS batch needs
Coordinates/arranges material for pre‑heating of chemicals
Weighs out ingredients, pours premixed materials into bowl and transfers balloons into bowl
Records batch/lot card and process information on the batch card
Performs mixing and vacuum pressure process following established procedures
Transfers finished mixture into transfer tanks and/or molds
Transfer mix from transfer tanks into molds
Optimizes positioning of filled molds in ovens and selects/executes proper cure cycle
Cleans and maintains mix and weighing equipment
Monitors cure of parts through cycle, recording batch details
Prepares mixer and mold PM schedules
Participates in inventory assessment of raw materials and data collection
Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies
Participates in Safety Training
Adheres to Business Management System requirements
Mold Prep, Fill And Demold:
Understands safety and procedural issues for mold prep and demolding process
Identifies all relevant equipment
Reads and understands the batch cards along with mix and oven schedules to identify which molds will require demolding and preparation on a daily basis
Identifies and schedules the trimming requirements of block, sheet and rod products
Identifies proper mold releases and cleaners
Hytac:
Coordinates demolding of product and transfer to inspection
Identifies and prepares rod, sheet and block molds required for daily use
Prepares molds to eliminate sticking and cracking
Schedules and performs mold rework when necessary
Assists in injection of mix into molds when required
Block:
Coordinates and/or assists in demolding of blocks and trimming after gelation including transfer of demolded blocks to secondary cure
Identifies and prepares block molds required for daily use ensuring quality of finished product by properly preparing molds to eliminate sticking and cracking
Assists in injection transfer of mix into molds when required
MacroCore/MacroFoam:
Coordinates and/or assists in demolding of blocks and trimming after gelation including transfer of demolded blocks to secondary cure
Identifies and prepares block molds required for daily use ensuring quality of finished product by properly preparing molds to eliminate sticking and cracking
Properly loads molds with macrospheres, seals molds and checks vacuum integrity
Preps injection hoses and fixtures for pour
Assists in injection/transfer of mix into molds when required
General:
Prepares preventative maintenance schedule and performs mold rework as necessary
Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies
Participates in Safety Training
Adheres to Business Management System requirements
TYPICAL EQUIPMENT USED Chemical mixers, Various hand tools, Vacuum chambers, Scales, Volumetric measurement devices, Viscometer, Ovens, Dollies/carts/forklifts/other tools for moving heavy‑weight
Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift, push and pull greater than 50 pounds. With the occasional need to lift up to 100 pounds
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to walk through a large manufacturing environment.
Must be able to use hand tools
Constant use of hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Repetitive hand and arm movements.
Occasional bending and twisting.
Frequently moving about to accomplish tasks.
Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to wear PPE as necessary (safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, etc.).
Work Environment Majority of work is performed in a manufacturing environment with noise levels within safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance To conform to U.S. Government export control regulations and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information restrictions, applicant must be a U.S citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State or Department of Commerce.
