Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full‑time lecturer beginning in August 2026. The primary teaching focus will be the biochemistry laboratory, taught at the junior level, with the possibility of teaching the nucleic acids laboratory at the senior level depending on the candidate’s preparation. The ability to teach general chemistry lecture is also expected, and there may be opportunities to teach other chemistry courses aligned with the candidate’s area of expertise. This is a renewable, nine‑month, non‑tenure‑track position with the possibility of contributing to summer teaching for additional compensation.

Responsibilities

Teaching biochemistry laboratory and general chemistry lecture courses based on departmental needs; serving on departmental committees; and mentoring undergraduate students.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry with research involving experimental biochemistry, or molecular biology with a strong foundation in chemistry is required, on or by August 1, 2026. Note: Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered; however, doctoral degree must be obtained within the first academic year of employment.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Experience in modern experimental biochemistry laboratory techniques with the ability to teach nucleic acids laboratory and other advanced chemistry courses as needed.
