Physician Advisor
As a Physician Advisor, you will promote evidence‑based medical care and appropriate hospital resource utilization, facilitating communication across medical, nursing, care coordination, and administrative departments. You will advocate for efficient patient care, remove barriers, and collaborate with attending physicians, bolstering the Department of Care Coordination’s utilization and compliance efforts. Your role requires exceptional clinical acumen, strong communication, and a deep understanding of hospital operations and regulations.
Responsibilities
Develop relationships with medical staff and key personnel, establishing a collaborative working environment.
Meet with members of the business office, admissions, medical records, education, nursing, key physicians, and ancillary services to foster teamwork.
Seek training and knowledge on communication, legal, ethical, and regulatory matters; review and familiarize yourself with InterQual® criteria.
Participate in the Case Management process including Utilization Review and proactive discharge planning.
Provide secondary review and medical rationale for referred cases, ensuring documentation in Utilization Review records.
Work to improve efficiencies of consultations, tests, surgeries, and hospital operations, and address avoidable days.
Advise medical staff on case management, utilization review, and structured care methodologies.
Identify quality issues and participate in peer review processes, communicating risk and length‑of‑stay relationships.
Maintain an environment of caring and compassion, and provide clear, concise messages for patient‑centered decisions.
Mentor physicians, case managers, and social services, promoting continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications
4‑6 years of experience practicing medicine in a recognized hospital or office environment.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (PDM) from a Kentucky‑licensed institution.
Preferred Qualifications
1‑3 years as a Physician Advisor or membership in the American College of Physician Advisors.
Experience in healthcare quality management.
Location Saint Joseph Hospital, a 433‑bed facility in Lexington, Kentucky.
Compensation $150.00 – $200.00 per hour.
