Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of Budget and Administration, the Budget Manager will support the School of Education’s financial goals and objectives through effective collaboration and constructive partnerships with colleagues and campus stakeholders. Providing support and guidance to School units, the Budget Manager will administer and monitor budget allocations and expenditures. The Budget Manager will facilitate the day‑to‑day and long‑term fiscal and operational functions by working hand in hand with the Director of Budget and Administration to set financial and budgetary priorities for SOE and provide oversight of finances within the school.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business.
5+ years of related and progressive experience in finance or budgeting.
Excellent computer skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe.
Experience with Peoplesoft, Hyperion, DataInsights, Tableau, and comparable applications.
Skills and Knowledge
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritize multiple deliverables, and multitask.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion regarding sensitive and confidential information.
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail and ability to follow through.
Proven ability to communicate complex information to a diverse audience in an understandable manner.
Ability to work both independently and with individuals/groups.
Working knowledge of university policies that relate to fiscal planning and administration—including budget, facilities, and human resources—preferred.
Responsibilities
Oversee, manage, plan, and direct the daily operations of the SOE Budget Office, ensuring seamless application of administrative policies and procedures and exercising judgment and discretion in interpreting a wide range of administrative policies.
Provide support/oversight to staff in the SOE Budget Office (three staff members).
Develop and maintain complex spreadsheets and integrated financial models used for budgeting and related information.
Review restricted gift funds and sponsored activity for updates.
Administer and monitor budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities, ensuring allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget and fiscal practices and university policies are followed.
Maintain strict confidentiality while guiding direct reports, faculty, staff, principal investigators, and directors in navigating complex questions related to SOE /Social Work/University policies, general ledger matters, and more.
Oversee sponsored award financial tracking and reporting.
Assist with pre‑award grant budget development.
Monitor project expenses and coordinate effort reporting for the schools.
Coordinate closely with administrative staff and central offices—including the Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Sponsored Accounting, and the VP of Research—to ensure compliance and alignment with policies.
Provide consistent communication with School of Education leadership to monitor actual and annual forecasted spending, ensuring proper management of the budget.
Prepare monthly estimated final reporting, including variance analysis.
Back‑up support to Director of Budget and Administration and other duties as assigned.
