Description of Work This position serves the lead role in undertaking the administrative and accounting related activities of the central office of the Solid Waste Section, providing administrative assistance and support to central office and regionally based staff, and may serve as an initial contact between the Section and citizens, facility owners and operators, other state and federal agency staff, and assisting in answering general programmatic questions immediately if possible, and to rapidly and accurately direct their telephone calls, emails, letters, etc. to the appropriate Section staff.

Key Responsibilities

Provides administrative support to the Solid Waste Section to include incoming/outgoing mail, equipment and supply purchasing, motor fleet maintenance, and other related functions.

Preparing and sending invoices for permit or annual fees for registered septage firms and solid waste management facilities and invoicing manufacturers of televisions and computer equipment.

Assist in preparation and managing database of County funding grants and awards including electronics management funds; scrap tire grant funds; and white goods fund distribution.

Receiving payments (paper checks and e‑pay) and entering into accounting system all fees from facilities and manufacturers; pursue outstanding invoice payments, and administer over‑payment refunds, as needed.

Support projects assigned by the Section Chief and/or other Section leadership.

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for protecting the public health and environment through assuring that solid and hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are managed properly, and existing contamination is cleaned up across the State of North Carolina. Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
