Responsibilities Under the general supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, performs intermediate tasks related to day‑to‑day inspections, preventative maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Key duties include:
Daily inspections, installations, general maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC) and repairs.
Respond to emergency situations and evaluate and correct defects.
Assist lower level facilities technicians and other trades as needed.
Maintain work areas and equipment, attend meetings, complete documentation and provide a high level of customer service.
Operate department vehicle and perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Specialties (70%):
Carpentry:
Installs/removes fixtures, executes drywall, flooring, trim work, paints, replaces hardware, repairs fire wall penetrations and doors.
Electrical:
Installs/repairs various electrical equipment, services motors, resets breakers, replaces fuses, responds to electrical emergencies, performs routine and complex maintenance.
Plumbing:
Repairs/installs plumbing fixtures, line work, tests eye wash stations, unclogs drains, performs preventive maintenance and emergency response.
HVAC:
Responds to temperature requests, repairs/replaces thermostats, cleans ducts, maintains HVAC components, performs intermediate and complex preventive maintenance.
General Duties (30%):
Ensures compliance with applicable codes and documents regulatory compliance tests.
Provides technical knowledge to other staff and may assist lower level technicians.
Maintains safe work environment, records labor, materials and work performed on work orders.
Participates in professional development, committees, trainings and orientation.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent; two years’ experience in general maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Within probationary period, obtain a valid OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Safety and Health card and demonstrate competence in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/R.
May require a valid State of Ohio driver license.
Desired: Associates or technical degree/certificate in a skilled trade or maintenance related field; basic understanding of university building design standards and capital project processes.
Physical Requirements Must be able to push and pull 70 lbs., distinguish colors, and climb ladders.
Unusual Work Conditions May work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments for extended periods. May be required to work in cramped spaces.
Employment Commitment Shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement; may work overtime; subject to 24‑hour emergency call.
Additional Information Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
