Microbiology Lab Technician

Base Pay Range $20.25/hr - $22.75/hr
Key Responsibilities
Execute daily laboratory operations and ensure the Laboratory Quality Management System is implemented and maintained in accordance with ISO 17025 standards.
Maintain records and manage all aspects of testing activities.
Prepare media and agar plates for testing and record entries on media logs.
Perform pour and petrifilm plating, count plates, and record results.
Report out‑of‑spec conditions and summarize test results.
Prepare and test raw materials, finished products, and other samples.
Generate data records, monitor testing status, produce reports, and communicate findings to support quality manufacturing.
Run membrane filtration (water testing) and PCR methods, recording results.
Maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic laboratory environment, including periodic maintenance, cleaning, and monitoring of equipment.
Follow lab safety protocols to prevent cross‑contamination.
Participate in proficiency programs and test control samples.
Assist or perform other duties/projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
Ability to operate microbiology instruments and equipment, including preventive maintenance, calibration, checks, and verification.
Experience performing microbiological swabbing and air monitoring.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet departmental goals, accuracy, and timeliness.
Demonstrated competency through successful proficiency testing.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree required or bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related fields; equivalent experience acceptable.
Strong mathematical skills for scientific testing and data analysis.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
Ability to work with minimal supervision and apply Good Laboratory Practices.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a microbiology/chemistry lab within a food‑processing environment.
Physical Demands & Environmental Hazards
Work in cold ( 90°F), and loud environments.
Must work in wet, cold, or hot conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Hours & Workdays
2nd shift; workdays vary: 2:00 pm–10:30 pm, 4:00 pm–12:30 am with mandatory overtime and weekends when business requires.
