Responsibilities
Ensure all instruments are rapidly decontaminated for turnover procedures and that instrument sets are assembled according to count sheets.
Complete necessary processes for sterilization and keep records of cleaning of all steam sterilizers.
Assemble and maintain sterilization charts for steam, automated reprocessors, and low‑temperature sterilizers.
Perform inventory reviews and order and restock supplies needed for autoclaving.
Determine the need for and replace routine instruments; initiate repairs and purchase orders with director approval.
Assist in the education/onboarding of new employees and participate in annual review of competencies.
Contact vendors to ensure correct trays arrive on time for sterilization.
Check the surgery schedule to verify required trays are in the facility/sterile.
Report to the assigned supervisor.
This position may have additional or varied physical demands and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Exposure to environmental hazards and contaminants such as blood, body fluids, chemicals, anesthesia gases, and electrical hazards may occur. Protective clothing including rubber gloves, masks, goggles, gowns, and aprons will be required.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
License/Certification: HSPA‑CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) OR HSPA‑CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) OR HSPA‑CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor) OR CBSPD‑CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician).
Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: 2 years preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments and supplies.
Experience: 2 years working with specialty instrument sets such as cardiovascular, robotic, trauma, and/or vascular sets.
