Monday Madness: Sorting Food Scraps for Composting!
Join us for our weekly Monday compost build! We will be sorting organics generated on-island and from our off-island partners including residential food scraps from Lower East Side Ecology Center and Big Reuse. Gain practical experience tracking food scraps, sorting out landfill items and recyclables from organics, and contributing to a community-scale composting system. We look forward to working towards collective environmental stewardship with you through composting together! IMPORTANT:
If you are interested, you must register on our calendar for "Monday Madness: Compost Build at Earth Matter!" - best viewed on a large screen/computer. Registration on our website closes at 12:00pm on Thursday for the following Monday so that we have enough time to coordinate with volunteers. You will be taking the 9am ferry to Governors Island from the Battery Maritime Building on 10 South St, NY 10004. The shift is approximately 2.5 hours with time at the end to walk back to the ferry terminal to catch the 12:15pm ferry departing the island or you can stay back to explore! You will receive more information upon signing up on our website calendar. Our compost build activity takes place outside at a paved area of our site and will involve physical sorting of organics and a brief tour. We are happy to discuss possible accommodations. Prior to registration, please reach out to volunteer@earthmatter.org if you have accessibility concerns.
