General Purpose Under indirect supervision, provides direct resident care to individuals with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in clinic, in-patient, outpatient, and outreach programs. Plans therapy programs, directs and assists residents in exercises and use of wheelchairs and other devices, and evaluates resident progress. Educates residents and families in appropriate physical therapy methods. Leads the work of and serves as a resource for other therapists. The facility expects employees to promote teamwork, hospitality, and comfort for its residents.
Key Responsibilities
Plan therapy programs for neuromusculoskeletal residents as prescribed by physician, including posture, gait, range of motion, muscle testing, sensory testing, specific extremity and spinal segmental motion, biomechanical analysis, orthotic analysis (if trained), ergonomic analysis, and other relevant assessments.
Administer appropriate physical agents per physician protocols, resident medical histories, and therapist’s knowledge of indications and contraindications, including electrotherapy, sound energy, heat/cold therapy, hydrotherapy, and JOBST compression.
Direct and aid resident in active and passive exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys, weights, steps, and inclined surfaces.
Evaluate, record, and report resident progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team.
Supervise PTA(s) per state guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy.
Current license in state of practice.
Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization.
Organized and detail-oriented work performance.
Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
Comply with the Residents’ Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.
