Overview Serves as a member of the Outpatient Clinic multidisciplinary team in the medical department to assess, plan, develop, coordinate and provide assessment, treatment, and support services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. Provides direct care services to clients in rooming, completing prior authorizations, managing refills, administering injections, drawing blood for laboratory assessment, and directly supporting prescribers with a variety of client care needs.

Responsibilities
Provides direct support to prescriber (ARNP or Psychiatrist) in serving clients.
Collects basic vitals and completes medication reconciliation at each appointment with prescriber.
Responds to phone calls from clients, pharmacies, hospitals, and other entities and directly coordinates with provider regarding client needs.
Ensures clients have access to medication and/or refills in coordination with pharmacies, completion of prior authorizations, accessing samples, and utilization of the drug repository.
Arranges for required lab work according to protocol, including completion of blood draws.
Administers IM injections according to protocol.
May provide nursing visit in coordination with prescriber involving assessment of client needs and implementing directive from provider.
Follows up on orders, lab results and medication prescriptions for all clients.
Properly destroys medications according to protocol.
Mediate conflicts related to client services between providers, parents, clients, and/or the agency relative to the identified needs of the clients.
Provide crisis intervention, as needed.
May assist provider in transcribing, administering, evaluating, and recording psychotropic medications prescribed.
Educate and support client’s families and advocate for client’s rights.
Documentation
Aid in evaluation and charting of psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications, and side effects (e.g., progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, release of information, authorization for services, client change forms, face sheets, etc.).
Documents in compliance with regulatory, billing, and agency standards.
Accurately enters client information into the electronic health record system, paper files, and shared drive folders to ensure an efficient medical records and billing process.
Coordination
Refers to and communicates with numerous entities including primary care, pharmacies, Integrated Health Home, residential services, and community‑based services.
Assists in or leads the coordination of inpatient recommendations when necessary.
Professionally and effectively presents information and responds to questions from clients, medical professionals, management staff, and the public.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
Experience:
Prefer 1 year experience in mental health field.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Registered Nurse currently in good standing and licensed by the State of Iowa.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Professional, ethical, accountable, interpersonal skills, teamwork, written and verbal communication, planning and organizing skills, flexibility, managing priorities/deadlines, client‑focused; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Electronic Health Record; fluently speak, read, and write English with ability to write legible entries in case notes and complete required written assignments.
